Courthouse Operations
The deputies referred to as bailiffs assigned to Courthouse Operations are tasked with the security of all individuals entering the Harris County Justice of the Peace Courts 4.1 and 4.2. Each courtroom is assigned a bailiff to assist with court hearings, trials, and security.
The bailiffs also have the responsibility of handling the jurors which are summoned for jury duty. The deputies that are assigned to this division have various assignments including but not limited to the protection of the judges, county employees, and civilians that enter the Justice of Peace Courthouses.
Bailiffs receive continual and required in-service training to keep current on the ever changing laws with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. The court division also continues to train on security techniques due to the ever changing prohibited items and updates. The courthouse deputies also receive tactical courthouse operations training for the safety of all judges, Harris County employees and civilians. The Courthouse Operations bailiffs in addition to their court assignments serve in the Civil and Writs Division as well as the Warrants Division.
