ENTRY LEVEL DEPUTY CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

ENTRY LEVEL DEPUTY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for hire as an entry level Deputy (Deputy VI), you must have a valid Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. You must also meet the following requirements:​
  • ​Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must complete a physical agility test.
  • Must pass a written examination.
  • Must not have used marijuana within the last 24 months.
  • Must not have used illegally, within the last ten years, a drug, narcotic or steroid, the possession or use of which is a felony offense.
  • Must not ever have used a hallucinogenic drug.
  • Must never have been convicted of or received community supervision for a Class A Misdemeanor or Felony.
  • Must not have been convicted of or received community supervision for a Class B Misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
  • Driving record should reflect prudence and maturity.
  • Former military personnel must not have been convicted of any court-martial higher than a summary.
  • Must have a stable employment and credit history.

LATERAL TRANSFER DEPUTY CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

LATERAL DEPUTY REQUIREMENTS
​To be eligible for hire as a Lateral Deputy (Deputy V - I), you must have a valid Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. You must also meet all of the following requirements:
  • Sworn Peace officer with at least twelve months of continuous, full time paid law enforcement experience from one (1) municipal, county, state or federal agency. 
  • Twelve of those months must be in a traditional first responder position (this must be verified).
  • Must have no more than a 45 day break in service from previous law enforcement agency.
  • Must be willing to be assigned to the patrol division.
  • Six month probation period with this agency must be completed.
  • Applicant may be credited with up to fourteen years of prior service. Credit for years served is effective upon hiring. (Restrictions apply).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must complete a physical agility test.

CIVILIAN CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: COMMUNICATIONS CENTER & CLERICAL

  • 18 years of age minimum. No maximum age limit
  • Must be able to obtain a Basic Telecommunicator license awarded by TCOLE.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • If a military veteran, applicants must have an honorable discharge only.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Eye-sight must be correctable to 20/20.
  • Hearing must be normal.
  • Must pass entry level written testing.
  • Show no trace of illegal drug usage.
  • Must never have been convicted of crime greater than a Class B Misdemeanor.
  • Applicants must have good credit.
  • Applicants will be interviewed.
  • Applicants must complete all phases of the required testing.
  • Applicants must be willing to accept any assignment or shift.
  • A thorough background investigation will be done on all applicants.
  • All costs for the application process, including medical testing, travel, parking etc., are to be paid by the applicant.​

  • Email the Precinct 4 Recruiting Unit to schedule a test date​
  • Download and Complete Employment Pre-Application
  • Successfully Complete Physical Agility Course, Timed Run, and Written Examination (POST)
  • Physical Agility Course and Run Consist of the following:
    • 1.5 mile run in 16 minutes 30 seconds
    • Climb a 6 foot wall while wearing a weighted belt
    • Climb up and down a flight of stairs without using handrails while wearing a weighted belt
    • Drag a 180 lb dummy approximately 30 yards while wearing a weighted belt
    • Carry weighted bags approximately 30 yards while wearing a weighted belt
  • Complete Personal History Statement (PHS) and Employment Application (provided upon successful testing)
  • Meet with Precinct 4 Recruiting Division to Submit and Review PHS and Employment Application
  • Successfully Pass Psychological Exam  (TCOLE L-3 Form) If Applicable (Applicant's Expense)
  • Successfully Pass Oral Board Interview
  • Successfully Pass Background Investigation
  • Chief Review
  • Receive Conditional Offer of Employment
  • Successfully Pass Firearm's Qualification
  • Successfully Pass Medical Physical and Drug Screen
  • Swear in with the Constable
