Internal Affairs Unit
The Internal Affairs Unit conducts investigations into allegations made by citizens or other agencies involving criminal misconduct by employees of this department. Internal Affairs also receives calls from citizens with complaints of a non-criminal nature and refers those complaints to the appropriate department division. A written and signed complaint is required by law before an Internal Affairs investigation into misconduct can be conducted. The Internal Affairs division also investigates whenever a Precinct 4 deputy discharges his duty weapon, whether on or off duty, from a use of force perspective.
The Internal Affairs Division has also been tasked with conducting background investigations for employment with this department as a peace officer or as a civilian employee. Internal Affairs coordinates with the Training Division in identifying and evaluating prospective applicants.
