Deputy Kareem Atkins - End of Watch: October 16, 2021
Precinct 4 Deputy Constable Kareem Atkins, while responding to a disturbance in a parking lot, was ambushed from behind by a suspect with a high-powered rifle, shot in the back, and killed. Two other Precinct 4 deputies were severely injured during this shooting as well. Deputy Atkins worked in law enforcement for three years, previously working for the College Station Police Department before joining the Constable's Office in January 2019. Deputy Atkins is survived by his wife and young child. Deputy F. Scott Claborn - End of Watch: February 19, 2004
Precinct 4 Deputy Constable F. Scott Claborn was killed when his patrol car was struck from behind by a drunk driver while he was traveling on North Beltway 8. The incident occurred at approximately 0200 hours. The deputy's vehicle was pushed it into a construction vehicle and then into a retaining wall. Deputy Claborn was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, who's BAC was more than three times the legal limit, was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter. He was found guilty and sentenced to 4 years in prison. Deputy Constable Claborn had served in law enforcement for 18 years, 14 with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office. He is survived by his wife, 9-year-old son, and his parents. |
Constable Marvin Winter - End of Watch: December 4, 1937
Constable Marvin Winter was killed when he was struck by two different automobiles while directing traffic at the scene of a truck accident in North Harris County. He succumbed to his injuries early the next morning. Constable Winter was survived by his wife and two children. |
