High Tech Crimes Unit
The High-Tech Crime Unit is a unit within the Criminal Investigations Division that is tasked with the investigation of technologically facilitated offenses including but not limited to forgeries, fraud, fiduciary crimes, breach of computer security, social networking related offenses and child pornography. Since personal and portable technology is so ingrained in our daily life, there are not too many types of investigations the HTCU doesn't conduct. The HTCU has the capability to forensically examine devices such as tablets, cell phones, GPS units, laptops, computers and even gaming systems for evidence in whatever crime is being investigated. The HTCU is a proud and founding member of the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, who actively investigates online child exploitation.
The HTCU maintains a robust stance in public education on fraud prevention and scam detection. Through partnerships with area schools, parent, teacher, and volunteer organizations, the HTCU combats child exploitation through internet safety training, free of charge and available to anyone asking. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office High-Tech Crime Unit stands ready to assist and defend the citizens of Precinct Four on the worldwide forefront of cyber crime.
