Patrol Commands

The Patrol Commands are the most visible part of the Constable's Office.  The duties of Patrol include high profile marked patrol, emergency and non-emergency response to calls for service, on scene and follow-up investigations, crime prevention and traffic enforcement. Patrol deputies are trained in various aspects of law enforcement from use of force, arrest search and seizure, cultural diversity, community policing, and emergency vehicle operations, to drug recognition (DRE), accident investigation, crime scene photography, field training, and criminal investigations. The Patrol Division responds to nearly 1,200 calls-for-service every 24 hours.

The Patrol Bureau contains the following:
North Patrol Command
Central Patrol Command
East Patrol Command
Humble Patrol Command
West Patrol Command
Night Patrol Command

The Patrol Division operates out of two full-service stations open to the public Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and five "Neighborhood Fronts", located strategically throughout the precinct for patrol operational uses. Patrol consists of Contract Patrol and District Patrol, and are geographically divided into five districts: Central, North, Humble, East and West. Each patrol command is commanded by a captain who is in charge of all uniformed operations in their respective area.

Contract Patrol

Contract Patrol Deputies are the first-responders to calls-for-service within contracted subdivisions and utility districts. Contract deputies are assigned to beats (contracts) within a district and work with the community, surrounding contract deputies, and other divisions and units to solve, prevent, and reduce crime. Contract deputies account for the majority of our uniformed deputies who would otherwise not be on patrol.

The Contract Deputy Program is open to subdivisions, groups of subdivisions, or municipal districts who contract with the agency to provide one or more deputies for patrol assignments to a particular area for law enforcement services. The Contract Deputy Program provides high visibility which helps in deterring and reducing crimes in the area. The Contract Deputy Program is known for rapid response to calls for service since the deputies are assigned specifically to a geographic area. The Contract Deputy Program is a way for neighborhoods and subdivisions that want or need additional patrol services to supplement existing law enforcement services. The Contract Deputy Program works under the philosophy of community oriented policing where the same deputy or group of deputies work the area and become familiar with the residents who live there, their patterns and are more capable of being aware of situations that out of the ordinary so deputies can respond accordingly. Aside from regular patrol duties and traffic enforcement, the Contract Deputy Program provides vacation and special watches for residents or business owners who may be out of town or have a particular problem that needs to be addressed. These watches are sent to the deputies through their chain of command so they are aware that the residents are not home and can make periodic checks on residences while they are away.

District Patrol

District Patrol Deputies are assigned to districts within the precinct and respond to calls-for-service inside and outside of contracted subdivisions and utility districts. Those calls range from citizen reports, accidents, traffic complaints, drug activity, DWI suspects, burglaries, in progress crimes, assaults, family violence, and theft to name a few. District deputies perform street patrol for area businesses, neighborhoods and supplement contracts when needed.
