Special Contract Support Unit
The Special Contract Support Unit is a unit with the Criminal Investigations Division that consists of trained criminal investigators who specialize in investigating theft and property related crimes. To accomplish these goals, a criminal investigator will analyze information and evidence from a crime scene, perform surveillance, or conduct interviews and search warrants. These crimes include residential, commercial and vehicle burglaries and thefts. The ultimate goal of the SCSU investigator is to understand the crime committed, develop a suspect, file charges in the case, and bring justice to the victim.
The SCSU investigators provides support to the patrol division whose cases require a more technical investigation. SCSU investigators use a multitude of computer programs to aid in their investigation. One of those programs is known as Leads Online. Leads Online not only aids investigators but is also available to the general public for storing data such as serial numbers and model numbers. This program is one of many that helps the investigator recover stolen property and track suspects involved in multiple crimes. Since its origin, the SCSU has recovered over a million dollars in property and filed numerous criminal charges.
Often one of the problems that make the recovery of stolen property more difficult is the lack of documentation by the owner of important information such as serial numbers, model numbers, etc. An organization by the name of Leads Online has developed a system for citizens to securely store this information on line.
